Concerned or Have Questions about Typical Speech Development?

Initial Consultation

Initial consultations are complimentary. Information will be gathered via phone conversation to determine your child's developmental background, interests, individual needs, and target areas of concern. During this initial consultation we will also discuss evaluation and therapy options and you will be provided educational information. If your child has recently (past 6 months) been assessed by a speech therapist by their school district or an outside therapy center, please let us know.

Evaluations

Based on the information gathered during the intake phone consultation, the speech therapist will recommend the best course of action. A speech evaluation can involve many or all of the following components: Developmental History, Review of Existing Records, Release of Information to talk with current speech therapists, Parent Interview, Observations, Speech/ Language Sample, Screening, Standardized Testing, Informal Testing. We block for a two-hour amount of time to complete our evaluation visit. The speech therapist will go over results of the findings at the end of the visit and discuss further options (therapy vs. home programming). If your child has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) from their school district, we may be able to pull from that plan to support our evaluation findings and/ or develop a treatment plan.

Speech Therapy

If a speech/ language need is demonstrated during the evaluation visit, in-home speech therapy will be recommended. This is evidence play based therapy will take place in the child's natural environment, either in the home or daycare setting. All children's speech therapy is individualized to target identified needs along with incorporating personal interests, learning styles, and activities. Each speech therapy session we will begin by discussing any questions, concerns, and progress from the previous session. From there, the majority of the session will focus on speech therapy with your child followed up by time at the end to review therapy techniques, ways to incorporate speech therapy into your daily routine to facilitate typical speech development, and any other questions you may have. At the end of each visit, parents/ caregivers will be given home programming to support the skills worked on during the children's speech therapy visit. Parents/ caregivers are welcomed and encouraged to be a part of the children's speech therapy visit.
